Mardi Gras Decorations – Tons of Fun!The historical party of Mardi Gras is claimed to have started years back with the Romans, but any one can join in the good times. Mardi Gras Decorations are what brings the color and all the fun to the large celebration.Feb is often a lifeless weather month, so a Mardi Gras party is just the thing to get everybody smiling again.Check Here to Save Big on All Your Mardi Gras Decorations for your next party! The standard colours of Mardi Gras are purple, gold and green. However, each color is used in Mardi Gras masks and costumes, so actually, any color of lights and Mardi Gras Decorations can be used to enliven your Mardi Gras party. Ask your visitors to dress up as court jesters with a jester hat, or as queens, pirates, kings, or princesses. Masquerade decorations and party masks lend a masquerade feel to a Mardi Gras party. Ask your visitors to come with their mask in hand, one that matches their costume, and then award prizes for the most flamboyant, most glittery, best themed, or best decorated maskMardi Gras CoinsMardi Gras coins, better known as doubloons, in the colours of purple, green, and gold lend to the party feeling and fun when splattered round the standard food dishes, punch bowl, and cake table. Gold pots full of plastic doubloons and placed round the party area look good too. Feathers, beads, and lights are sure to make your party the one your mates, family and neighbors talk about for coming months. Strings of mardi gras beads in each color are thrown from the decorative floats as they move down the streets of New Orleans. You can use green mini lights, gold mini lights or even strings of beads with mini lights to liven up the tables, bookcases, entertainment center, ceiling, candlabras, and entrances. Mini LED light sets strung across and round the table will look good when mixed with the other colorful decorations. Decorate the outside of your place with C7 purple, green, and yellow light sets. Hang confetti and ribbon from the ceiling too for added color and decor. Give out bead necklaces and bracelets to your visitors as they arrive so they can feel just like they are at Mardi Gras.Use Mardi Gras Decorations to illuminate your porch, trail, steps, railing, balcony, terrace, garage, front door and windows with light sets in the standard Mardi Gras colors. Mardi Gras Costumes are bold and decorative for any Mardi Gras party. Massive feathery hats will flicker when you use battery-operated lights to show off your baroque headpieces. Battery operated light sets are also great additions to table centerpieces. Add a strand of mini lights round the King Cake too for added flicker. Standard food dishes served at a Mardi Gras party might include shrimp jambalaya, rice and beans, shrimp and crab appetisers, hearty crab chowder, chicken or shrimp gumbo, meat pies, a variety of cheeses and crackers, chips, pretzels, crawfish pureed potatoes, and King Cake for pudding. Punch is always a hit at any party along with drinks like hot toddies, sodas, hot cider, and non-alcoholic drink mixes. Add your own private touches to your Mardi Gras party and enjoy food, fun, and laughter with your party guests.Mardi Gras Parties can be a blast with the proper preperation. Having the right mix of Mardi Gras Decorations with food and games can make for a memorable party any time of the the year.
At age 33, was sentenced to death for Jesus. That was the “worst” death. Only the worst criminals would like Jesus to die. And with Jesus things were worst, because not all the criminals condemned to death nails on the hands and feet could get. Of course, nails … Big Nails! Everyone was from 15 to 20 cm long, with a period of 6 cm. The nails were craved into the pulses, and not in the palms, as we are accustomed to hear .. In the pulse, there is a tendon that extends to the shoulder, and when the nails were hammered, broke that tendons, obliging Jesus to reinforce all the muscles of his back, so he air, as he was losing all the air from his lungs. In this way, he was forced onto the nail craved in his feet that are larger than the longing in his impulses had been longing for both feet together to support. And, as his feet could not endure for a long time without tearing, Jesus was forced to alternate that “cycle” so that he could breath. Jesus endured that reality over 3 hours. 3 Yes, for hours! Long time, no? A few minutes before he died was, Jesus is no longer bleeding. He was simply pouring water from his cuts and holes. If we imagine that he violated, we can only imagine how he and injuries, but there is not enough; His wounds were true holes, made in his body … He had no more blood to bleed, he looks just doused with water. The human body is composed of near 3.5 liters of blood (for adults). Jesus poured all 3.5 liters of his blood, he had three nails …

Jambalaya cuisine in focus

Article by Stephen Kember

Creole-Cajun style Jambalaya cuisine is a highly versatile style of cooking that has become very popular; it is a one-pot dish cooked in cast iron

Cooking Jambalaya is more of an art than a science these days as it has become firmly entrenched as part of our American heritage. But there is one important thing to appreciate; it just isn’t Jambalaya if it isn’t cooked within a traditional cast iron Jambalaya pot.

Jambalaya is a southern dish arising out of Louisiana’s rice production and traditions. Rice is a fundamental part of all Jambalaya dishes as it absorbs all the flavors of all the other ingredients making all those beautiful distinctive flavors we have come to love.

Now to an important rule. After the rice has been added, the jambalaya should be turned but never stirred. This is to prevent the grains of rice from breaking up. Usually a jambalaya dish is turned just three times after the rice is added with the cook scooping from the bottom of the pot to mix the rice evenly with all the other ingredients. In larger pots shovels are used to turn the Jambalaya!Jambalaya recipes can be made up from beef, fresh pork, chicken, duck, shrimp, oysters, crayfish or sausage, combined typically with onions, garlic, tomatoes, cayenne pepper, green peppers, celery and other seasoning; and of course, the all important long grained white rice. The typical preparation of Jambalaya involves creating a rich stock from vegetables, meat, and seafood whereupon white-grained long rice is added and the flavors absorbed as the rice cooks.

At its heart Jambalaya is a highly seasoned rice dish that is strongly flavored with mixes of meat and seafood

The most common jambalaya dish is Creole jambalaya or red jambalaya. This dish originates from the French Quarter of New Orleans,. Here typically chicken and sausage are browned, then vegetables and tomatoes are added and cooked. This is then followed by the addition of mixed seafood and then at the end rice and stock are added. The mixture is then left to simmer for 20 to 60 minutes.

The story goes that Creole-Jambalaya was a best stab, by the Spanish at making the traditional Spanish paella at a time when saffron was too costly due to import costs. As a result tomatoes were substitute for saffron. As time passed Caribbean spices were added and altogether this turned a best attempt at making a paella into a new dish called Jambalaya.

A second Jambalaya dish, popular in southwest and south-central Louisiana, is Cajun jambalaya; a dish that contains no tomatoes. The meat is browned in a cast-iron pot and removed then onions, celery, and green peppers are added and cooked until soft. Stock and seasonings are added and the meats returned to the pot. The mixture is then left to simmer for one hour and then finally rice is added to the pot. The Jambalaya is then covered and left to simmer over a low heat for half an hour without stirring. The Church has played a big part in the development of the Jambalaya tradition as church fairs, which were large public gatherings, demanded large scale cooking and Jambalaya cuisine stepped into the frame moving from the kitchen to the outdoor fire.

Great big black cast iron pots were called for as the numbers needing feeding were in the hundreds and so today we have Jambalaya pots going right up to 60 gallons. From these church fairs and public meetings a new style of cuisine was born.

Some suggest that Jambalaya and Gumbo cuisine are the same! This is not so. Yes they are similar but with one big exception. In jambalaya, the rice is slowly cooked in the same pot with all the rest of the ingredients, in gumbo cuisine the rice is cooked separately and used as a base on the plate onto which the gumbo dish is ladled.

King cake is a traditional way to celebrate Mardi Gras. And this easy king cake recipe is simple enough for anyone to make. For this king cake recipe, you will need: 2 cans of refrigerated biscuit dough (8-10 biscuits each) 1/4 cup butter, melted 1/2 cup sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar 2-4 Tbsp. milk green, gold and purple colored sugar Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Open the refrigerated biscuit dough and separate into biscuits. Line them up to make a large rectangle – 4 biscuits across and 5 down is about right. Now take a piece of plastic wrap and place it over the biscuits. This just makes them easier to roll without sticking. Roll the biscuits together to form a single sheet of dough. Remove the plastic wrap. Now mix the cinnamon and sugar together. Brush the melted butter on the dough, leaving about 1/4 inch border all the way around. Sprinkle on the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Now starting from the long end, roll the dough up, jellyroll fashion. Place the dough in a circle on an ungreased baking sheet. And pinch the edges to seal it. Now it’s traditional to put a plastic baby in the king cake, and whoever gets that piece has to make the cake the next year. But I don’t like the idea of baking with plastic, so I just add the baby at the end. Now bake the king cake in the preheated oven for 18-25 minutes, until golden brown. Meanwhile, make the glaze: Start by adding a few tablespoons of the milk to the powdered sugar. Mix it together, and keep adding …

Smooth Move Jesse Jackson

So, media savvy Jesse Jackson got caught with his proverbial pants down. The microphone was still on as Jackson uttered the now infamous words “See, Barack’s been talking down to black people. … I want to cut his nuts of.” Interesting how someone who must obviously be very familiar with the functioning of media equipment managed to commit such a faux pas. I don’t think there’s a political pundit alive that believes that Jackson intended for his words to go unheard.

The problem is that Jackson and Obama approach black politics from very different angles. Jackson has always attempted to rally the troops to action with inflammatory words and combative beliefs. His blame-it-on-the-white-guy politics have never been effective as his failed presidential bids have proved.

Obama, on the other hand, realizes that, regardless of the reasons which may have kept some black people disenfranchised in the past, the future depends on their ability to move on.

Obama’s call to action has nothing to do with protests or hostile words, and has everything to do with responsibility. As long as the black community continues to remain planted firmly in the past, the prospects for the future will continue to be barred by hate.

Obama has adopted a stance that identifies less with a past defined by slavery than a future based on success. Black American history has been so intent on placing blame that purveyors of hate like Jackson have been allowed to flourish. But, Obama has elected to follow a different path. And, good for him!

Barack Obama is not “talking down to black people”, he’s talking them up, and not out like Jackson has been allowed to do for several decades – to the detriment of the black community.

Obama represents the blacks of this great nation in a light that encourages a cooperative government, not one that forces the beliefs of others into the spotlight. Obama seems to realize, as Jackson does not, that the success of the nation, and the people that live here, depends on the ability of everyone to work together, not against each other. As long as blame takes precedence over progress, someone’s gonna pay. And, in a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, it’s usually the group consumed by their own need to place blame that suffers.

So, get over it, Jesse. Your impotent attempt to emasculate Obama was as futile as your political career. Your time is over. And the time for a kinder, gentler form of action is at hand. Stop trying to fan the flames of anger and support Obama in his efforts to get past the obstacles that have kept blacks in this country from realizing their full potential.
